Taliban Administration Calls for Torghundi Railway Project to Be Completed Under Agreement

Mullah Mohammad Essa Sani, acting minister of public works in the Taliban administration, visited Herat province to inspect the development work and new facilities at the Torghundi port railway station, calling for the project to be completed in line with the signed memorandum of understanding.

The Taliban administration’s Ministry of Public Works said in a statement that Sani, accompanied by a technical team, reviewed the progress of the project. During the visit, he met Sardar Gurbanov, head of Turkmenistan’s state-owned Demiryol Gurlushik company, which is carrying out the project.

According to the ministry, the meeting focused on work progress, existing challenges and the project’s technical specifications. The head of Demiryol Gurlushik also assured officials that the project would be completed within the set timeframe, with better quality and in accordance with technical standards.

Torghundi port is located in Herat province along Afghanistan’s border with Turkmenistan. It is considered one of the key transit routes for the movement of commercial goods between Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Central Asian countries.
