New Video Shows Pakistani Taliban Displaying Drone-Jamming Device Amid Security Concerns
A newly released video by media affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban has sparked discussions about the group’s access to drone jamming equipment, raising fresh security challenges in the border regions.
In the video, Mehsud is seen in mountainous areas surrounded by his guards. Next to him stands a man carrying a large backpack equipped with four tall antennas, a scene that has caught the attention of security analysts.
Military experts say the device resembles portable radio wave jamming systems—equipment that disrupts communication between drones and their operators, making it difficult to control small commercial drones like quadcopters.
An account on the X platform claimed that the device is made in China and carried by one of Mehsud’s guards, although this claim has not yet been independently verified.
In recent months, the use of small drones along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border has increased, with some armed groups employing these tools for surveillance, transporting small packages, or conducting limited operations. Simultaneously, reports have emerged about access to Chinese-made radio wave jamming devices on the black market, with similar models advertised on social media for around three to four lakh rupees.
The source of these equipments and how the Pakistani Taliban have obtained them remain unclear. Pakistani officials previously claimed that some military equipment left behind after foreign forces withdrew from Afghanistan has fallen into the hands of militant groups. Although this claim lacks independent verification, it has raised concerns about the circulation of advanced gear among these groups.
