Gaza Residents Voice Concern Over UN Security Council Resolution Backed by US

Following the adoption of a recent UN Security Council resolution initiated by the United States to deploy an international force in the Gaza Strip, several Gaza residents have expressed concern, describing the decision as the beginning of foreign intervention.

The resolution, passed on Monday, November 17, lays the groundwork for the deployment of multinational forces in Gaza. It marks the first step in implementing a 20-point plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which aims to establish a ceasefire, facilitate the exchange of prisoners between Israel and Hamas, and rebuild Gaza.

Yusri Al-Ghoul, a Gaza resident, criticized the decision, saying, “At a time when Palestinians are facing a genocide and the world remains silent, this resolution does not help. It turns humanitarian aid into a form of political blackmail. Palestinians must use diplomatic means to reclaim their repressed identity.”

Other Gaza residents view the move as a form of U.S. guardianship over Palestine’s political future. Mustafa Ibrahim, another resident, stated, “The Security Council’s decision reflects forced U.S. oversight and disregards our genuine demand for peace and an independent Palestinian state. What’s more concerning is the direct role the U.S. plans to play in managing future talks between Palestine and Israel.”

This marks the first time the Security Council has approved such a plan, effectively paving the way for the establishment of a mediation group led by Donald Trump. The group is expected to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction and manage the transitional phase. Despite being branded a peace initiative, the lack of Palestinian participation in top-level decision-making has fueled increased doubts and concerns about the future of the Palestinian people and their homeland.
