Taliban Arrests Multiple Suspects for Theft and Gambling in Several Provinces

The Taliban administration has announced that its police forces have arrested several individuals during operations across various provinces on charges of different crimes. According to reports, seven people were detained in Faryab province on suspicion of gambling, four individuals were arrested in Herat for theft, and another four were taken into custody in Nimroz in connection with the theft of four motorcycles.

In addition to these arrests, Taliban police also claimed to have discovered and confiscated a cache of weapons in Ghazni province. Moreover, two artillery shells were reportedly recovered in Jawzjan province.

The announcement comes amid ongoing concerns regarding the legal procedures and human rights standards observed by the Taliban’s justice system. Many international organizations and human rights advocates have expressed alarm over arbitrary arrests, torture, and the lack of due legal process in the investigation and prosecution of suspects under Taliban rule.

Experts further emphasize that without an independent and accountable judicial system, efforts to combat crime not only risk being ineffective but may also become tools for repression and the curtailment of civil liberties.
