Taliban Commerce Minister Leads Delegation to India for Trade Talks

The Taliban-run Ministry of Industry and Commerce has announced that a high-ranking delegation, led by minister Nooruddin Azizi, has traveled to India. The delegation was invited by the Indian government for an official visit.
According to a statement released by the ministry on Wednesday, November 18, the purpose of the trip is to explore ways to effectively utilize the potential of the Chabahar Port and to strengthen trade cooperation with India.
The ministry stated that attracting Indian investment in Chabahar Port-related projects and boosting bilateral trade between Kabul and New Delhi are the main objectives of the meetings.
While the visit may open up new economic prospects for Afghanistan, serious concerns remain about the legitimacy of the Taliban government and its ability to ensure transparency and serve the interests of the Afghan people in such engagements. Some observers worry that the lack of a legal and accountable structure under the Taliban administration could hinder the full realization of economic opportunities.
