Balkh Governor Urges UNAMA to Base Reports on Facts

The Taliban administration in Balkh has announced that Mohammad Ismail Ghaznavi, the governor of the province, emphasized the importance of compiling UNAMA’s reports based on “existing facts and neutrality” during his meeting with Georgette Gagnon, head of UNAMA’s political office.

According to a statement from the Information and Culture Directorate of the Taliban administration in Balkh, the meeting covered discussions on the economic situation, security, residents’ livelihoods, development projects, and economic cooperation—issues that have faced serious challenges nationwide in recent months.

Meanwhile, Georgette Gagnon highlighted UNAMA’s ongoing commitment to improving humanitarian conditions and sustainable development. UNAMA is the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, with a mandate that includes political monitoring and coordinating humanitarian aid.

This meeting took place amid widespread international reports on Afghanistan’s economic and humanitarian situation in recent months, which have frequently drawn responses from Taliban officials.
