Pakistan Urges Formation of Inclusive Government in Afghanistan

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, has announced his country’s efforts to gain Russian support for establishing an inclusive government in Afghanistan. According to him, the issue has been raised multiple times in diplomatic discussions with Russian officials.
In an interview with Pakistan’s state television on Tuesday, Tirmizi stressed that the current administration in Afghanistan must represent all political and ethnic groups, refrain from supporting extremism, and respect the human rights of Afghan citizens.
He added that Russia is well aware of the risks posed by instability in Afghanistan and should play a more constructive role in fostering peace in the country. He asserted that Afghanistan serves as a bridge between South Asia and Central Asia, and peace within its borders is vital to regional stability.
The Pakistani ambassador also expressed his country’s security concerns to Russia, stating that India is attempting to destabilize Pakistan by exerting influence in Afghanistan. He expressed hope that both Russia and Indian officials would realize the consequences of such policies.
These statements were made on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Moscow, which was attended by Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. During the event, Dar held talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, and other Russian officials.
While Russia maintains close ties with the Taliban-led administration, it has expressed willingness to mediate between Islamabad and the Taliban. However, serious questions remain about the Taliban’s sincerity in forming an inclusive government, as the group has yet to take any concrete steps toward power-sharing with different ethnic and political factions.
