Bodies of Three Afghan Migrants Killed in Italy Transferred to Kabul

The Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations has announced that the bodies of three Afghan migrants who lost their lives in a fire in southern Italy were transferred to Kabul on the 5th and 6th of Asad (July 27-28).

According to the ministry, these individuals died on the 11th of Jawza (June 1) in the Amendolara area of Cosenza province in southern Italy, after their vehicle caught fire. Italian authorities had previously reported that in this incident, three Afghan nationals and one Pakistani national were burned alive inside a car.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred in a fuel tanker. The Ministry of Refugees claims that the vehicle was set on fire by a Pakistani national due to personal hostility.

The ministry’s statement noted that the victims were residents of Balkh, Parwan, and Nangarhar provinces. For the transfer of the bodies from Kabul airport, three ambulances were allocated. The body of Esmatullah was taken to Sholgarah district in Balkh province, Fazl Amin to the 12th district of Kabul city, and Amjad Safi to Kohsafi district in Parwan province.

Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described the incident as a “horrific crime” and said the deliberate killings deeply shocked her. The event has once again highlighted concerns regarding the safety of migrants in Europe.
