Taliban Administration and Uzbekistan Agree to Expand Transit Cooperation
The Taliban administration announced that during a meeting between the acting Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Taliban and the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan, both sides agreed to expand transport relations and introduce new transit facilitation measures. If implemented, this agreement could increase the movement of freight trucks between the two countries.
According to a statement from the Taliban’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, discussions focused on creating transit facilities and simplifying the visa issuance process for drivers. One of the main topics was enabling increased movement of Afghan transit trucks into Uzbekistan.
The Uzbek Minister of Transport is quoted in the statement as affirming that his country will continue cooperation with Afghanistan in various sectors and has promised to provide additional facilitation to boost the movement of transit vehicles.
Additionally, the acting Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Taliban claimed that both parties have a serious determination to develop bilateral cooperation and practical steps must be taken in this regard. Based on the announcement, technical teams from both countries are set to begin joint practical work to further develop transport and transit facilities.
Uzbekistan is considered one of Afghanistan’s key transit routes in Central Asia, with the Hairatan port in Balkh province serving as a crucial crossing point between the two countries.
