Bodies of 14 Afghan Migrants Found in Nimroz Desert

Local sources and the Neda-e-Baloch news agency reported on Friday, July 31, that the bodies of 14 Afghan citizens were discovered in the “Rig-e Lalu” area of Nimroz province. These individuals had gone missing while traveling through illegal routes toward Iran.

According to published images, 14 people died after wandering in the province’s deserts due to extreme heat and dehydration. The desert routes in Nimroz are among the most dangerous paths for illegal migration, claiming victims every year.

Abdul Muttawakil Touhidi, spokesperson for the Taliban administration’s governor in Nimroz, confirmed the discovery of the bodies in conversations with the media.

Recently, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that five Afghan citizens had died on illegal migration routes in the same province, with 14 others reported missing. Poverty, unemployment, and lack of job opportunities are cited as the main reasons driving many residents of the country to take these perilous routes.
