AK Party Official Killed in Shooting in Batman, Turkey

Mohammad Dirik, a member of the leadership team of the ruling AK Party’s local branch in Turkey, was killed in an armed attack in the city of Batman in the southeast of the country. His son, Arjan, and his nephew, Bekir, also died at the scene.
According to Turkish media, the shooting took place in a municipal cemetery in the Gönükent area of Batman. One or more unidentified assailants fired at the three using a pistol before fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Turkish police cordoned off the area and restricted entry and exit to the cemetery. Security officials stated that they are reviewing surveillance footage and tracing the attackers’ escape route to identify those responsible.
Mohammad Dirik had previously headed the youth organization of the AK Party in this region and served as deputy mayor of Batman city center until March 2025. So far, Turkish authorities have not released any details regarding the possible motive for the attack, and investigations are ongoing.
