Iran Vows Response After Ukraine-Linked Attack on Iranian Commercial Ship Kills Sailor

Abbas Araghchi, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, has stated that the attack attributed to Ukraine on an Iranian commercial ship, which resulted in the death of a sailor, will be met with a response.

On Sunday, July 26, Araghchi wrote on the social media platform X that Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, attacked an Iranian commercial vessel, causing the death of a sailor. According to Araghchi, this action is a “clear violation of the United Nations Charter” and was carried out with the aim of dragging Europe into the war.

The Iranian foreign minister also said that in communications with Kaja Kallas, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, and Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, he emphasized that this act “cannot go unanswered.”

So far, Ukrainian officials have not publicly responded to these allegations. The war between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing since 2022, and related tensions have also escalated in regional waters and trade routes.
