Taliban Border Affairs Chief Meets Tajik Delegation to Discuss Border Security and Anti-Smuggling Efforts

Mullah Noorullah Noori, the Acting Minister of Border Affairs, Ethnicities, and Tribes under the Taliban administration, emphasized the need to combat human and drug trafficking during a meeting with a high-level Tajik delegation led by Mirzazoda Abdulwahid.

According to an official statement from the ministry, the talks between the two delegations primarily focused on security along the border, border-related challenges, border demarcation, and enhancing bilateral cooperation. Noori claimed that the Taliban administration has taken measures to prevent smuggling and stated that specific ‘orders’ had been issued by the leadership in this regard.

He also expressed satisfaction over the “expansion of friendly relations between Afghanistan and Tajikistan,” adding that the Taliban administration seeks to establish political and economic ties with various countries around the world. These remarks come amid the Taliban’s lack of international recognition and widespread criticism over human rights violations.

Mirzazoda Abdulwahid, the head of the Tajik delegation, described Afghanistan and Tajikistan as sharing “cultural and religious ties” and stated that the people of both nations aspire for security and stability. He emphasized the need for both nations to resolve border challenges through dialogue and mutual understanding, asserting Tajikistan’s commitment to continued cooperation in this area.

The recent meeting appears to be part of broader regional efforts to manage border tensions and curb illicit cross-border activities—issues that have become increasingly complex following the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan.
