Technical Survey Completed for Five Hydroelectric Dam Sites in Kunar

Local authorities in Kunar province have announced the completion of technical surveys for five sites designated for the construction of hydroelectric dams on the Kunar River. According to officials, these surveys represent the initial step towards the next phases of design and construction for these energy projects.

The Kunar River is one of the main water sources in eastern Afghanistan, which annually rises in water level and threatens residential and agricultural areas with flooding. Local residents say that the construction of these dams will protect their homes and farmlands from flood risks.

Several Kunar residents have also expressed hope that these projects will facilitate electricity generation, create job opportunities, and stimulate economic growth in the region. They emphasize that Kunar, with its abundant water resources, holds significant potential for hydropower production.

However, experts stress that the Taliban administration must implement such infrastructure projects with transparency, careful planning, and consideration of the interests of all residents to avoid repeating past challenges in major projects.
