Kafar Qala Fortress Dating Back to 300 BC Registered in Parwan Province
The Department of Information and Culture of Parwan Province has announced the identification and registration of a historic fortress known as “Kafar Qala,” dating back to nearly 300 years before Christ, in the Siyah Gird district of the province. This site has been officially added to the department’s database of historical monuments for the first time.
According to officials from the department, Kafar Qala is located in the Franjel Ghorband area, situated atop a high hill with a strategic position. The fortress features several watchtowers, a large main entrance gate, and tall defensive walls, indicating its past military and defensive functions.
Officials from the Department of Information and Culture of Parwan stated that in accordance with the Taliban leadership’s directive on protecting historical monuments, efforts will be made to maintain and, if necessary, restore these sites. However, cultural experts emphasize that registering historical monuments must be accompanied by a practical plan, dedicated funding, and specialized supervision to prevent potential damage and destruction.
The Department of Information and Culture has called on the residents of Parwan Province to cooperate in identifying, registering, and protecting historical sites. According to some local residents, another ancient site named “Qarya Buda” is also located north of Kafar Qala, which may further illustrate the rich historical background of this region.
