Iran and Turkey Discuss Escalating Tensions Between Taliban and Pakistan

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan held a recent phone conversation to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, including the growing tensions between the Taliban administration and Pakistan.
In the call, the two senior diplomats emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and expressed their desire to expand cooperation across various sectors. Both Iran and Turkey have historically played key roles in regional affairs.
Araghchi welcomed efforts to reduce friction between Pakistan and the Taliban administration, stressing that maintaining regional stability requires ongoing consultations among influential countries. He reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to help ease tensions and promote peace.
Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan underscored the need for collective action by regional governments to manage current crises, noting that regional security depends on cooperative strategies.
The call comes amid heightened concerns over the potential security implications of the increasing discord between the Taliban and Pakistan.
Given the Taliban administration’s lack of domestic and international legitimacy, the discord with Afghanistan’s eastern neighbor presents a challenge to the future of peace in South Asia. Countries like Iran and Turkey, which have traditional ties with the involved parties, could play a mediating role.
