Taliban Official Meets Iran’s Chief Justice to Discuss Afghan Migrant Issues

Mawlawi Fazl Mohammad Haqqani, head of the Taliban’s diplomatic office in Tehran, met with Hojjatoleslam Jafar Montazeri, Chief Justice of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to discuss matters related to Afghan migrants in Iran.
The Taliban’s diplomatic office in Tehran released a statement saying that during the meeting, topics such as the situation of Afghan prisoners and the freezing of Afghan traders’ bank accounts were addressed. Both sides emphasized following up these issues through legal channels.
According to the statement, expanding bilateral relations and legal cooperation were also among the main topics discussed. No further details about practical outcomes of these talks have been released.
Iran hosts a significant number of Afghan migrants, and their legal and banking issues have consistently been a major challenge in relations between the two parties.
