Taliban Arrest 21 Over Criminal Allegations in Five Afghan Provinces

In a recent report, the Taliban’s police forces announced the arrest of 21 individuals in connection with criminal activities across five Afghan provinces. The detainees are accused of crimes including human trafficking, document forgery, deception, and theft.

According to the report, the highest number of arrests took place in Nimruz province, where 11 individuals were detained on charges of human trafficking, fraud, and falsifying documents. Due to its location near the Iranian border, Nimruz is considered a major route for human trafficking.

Meanwhile, five people were arrested in Herat for theft, three from Faryab for similar offenses, one person in Khost in connection with the theft of three motorcycles, and another thief in Jawzjan.

The announcement of these arrests comes amid ongoing concerns about the Taliban’s legal and judicial institutions. There are serious questions regarding the transparency, fairness of legal proceedings, and potential abuse of power in the handling of suspects. It remains unclear what rights the accused have under the Taliban’s legal system and whether they will receive fair trials.
