Afghanistan Faces One of the World’s Largest Displacement Crises, UNDP Warns

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced that Afghanistan is currently grappling with one of the largest displacement crises globally, exacerbated by widespread poverty, consecutive droughts, and devastating earthquakes.
According to the report, thousands of displaced families are living alongside host communities in difficult economic and livelihood conditions and urgently require sustained support. Internal displacement in Afghanistan has increased in recent years due to natural disasters and structural challenges, placing additional pressure on vulnerable areas.
The UNDP stated that to help move beyond mere “return” toward true recovery, it supports projects that involve both displaced people and local residents in rebuilding livelihoods, creating job opportunities, and strengthening economic resilience.
However, experts emphasize that effectively addressing the displacement crisis requires transparent policies, responsible resource management, and the provision of employment opportunities and essential services by the Taliban administration. Without these measures, the path to sustainable reconstruction will face serious challenges.
