Taliban Boost Security Posts and Enforce Nighttime Restrictions in Panjshir

Local sources in Panjshir province report that the Taliban administration has significantly increased its security presence in response to the release of new videos showing armed opposition activities. According to these sources, new checkpoints have been established across various locations, and nighttime movement restrictions have been tightened. Residents confirm that leaving homes after 6 p.m. has been declared forbidden.

In recent weeks, at least two videos showing anti-Taliban forces operating in Panjshir have been released. The “Green Trend,” affiliated with Amrullah Saleh, announced on May 25 that a vehicle carrying Taliban forces was targeted in the Abdullah Khil valley. The group claimed in the video that the vehicle was transporting troops to a base in the village of Manjansto.

Another video, reportedly featuring a senior anti-Taliban commander, shows several armed individuals slaughtering a sheep during the Eid al-Adha holiday. The exact location of this footage is unclear, but local sources say that security measures in Panjshir were increased following its release.

According to sources, Taliban forces have deployed to key areas within the province and resumed search operations in the foothills. In recent days, multiple inspections have been conducted in different areas. These measures come amid ongoing complaints from Panjshir residents about heavy security pressures and extensive restrictions.

Since Afghanistan fell again under Taliban control on August 15, 2021, Panjshir has become one of the main centers of armed resistance. Since then, the Taliban administration’s broad presence, house-to-house operations, arrests, and movement restrictions have continued in the province.

Reports from international human rights organizations indicate that Panjshir residents have faced arbitrary detentions, mistreatment, and collective punishments in recent years. The recent increase in security measures has once again raised concerns about human rights conditions and the pressure on the civilian population in the province.
