Pakistan Mediates Iran-US Memorandum of Understanding Signed by Presidents

Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced that the presidents of Iran and the United States have signed a memorandum of understanding mediated by Islamabad, and the agreement will immediately enter the implementation phase.

According to international media, Shahbaz Sharif stated that this memorandum is the same text he approved as the mediator. He added that with the signing of this document, practical steps to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington will commence.

Sharif explained that, in the initial phase, Iran will immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while the United States will directly lift its naval blockade. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the region’s most important energy transit points, and any change in its status has extensive economic and political repercussions worldwide.

The Pakistani Prime Minister also expressed appreciation for Qatar’s role in advancing this process, saying the country’s leadership contributed to reaching this stage through “sincere efforts and constructive participation.”

He further claimed that the commitment of Donald Trump, President of the United States, to diplomacy and preference for peaceful solutions played a role in ending this conflict. No further details have yet been released regarding the implementation mechanism or the precise timeline for actions by both parties.
