Afghan Shia Scholars Council Calls for Security During Muharram Commemorations

The Afghan Shia Scholars Council, coinciding with the arrival of the month of Muharram, has called on the Taliban administration to ensure the safe and grand holding of mourning ceremonies for Imam Hussein (PBUH) across the country. The council emphasized that securing the safety of mourners and safeguarding citizens’ religious rights is the direct responsibility of security agencies.
In its statement, the council said that the Muharram and Ashura ceremonies should be conducted with the same religious enthusiasm and awareness as in previous years, allowing mourners to perform their religious rituals in a peaceful and secure environment. The Shia Scholars Council asserted that respecting the religious rights of citizens is one of the fundamental obligations of the Taliban administration.
The council also urged preachers and orators to explain the goals and messages of Imam Hussein’s (PBUH) uprising while refraining from discussing topics that could cause division and discord among Muslims. The statement stressed that maintaining Islamic unity is especially important given the current conditions in the country.
Furthermore, the Afghan Shia Scholars Council called on the officials of mourning groups and processions to fully cooperate with security forces to better ensure security. The council expressed hope that Muharram and Ashura ceremonies would be held without any issues and in a secure atmosphere throughout all regions of the country.
