Taliban’s Doha Representative Demands Inclusion in Regional and International Meetings

Sohail Shahin, the Taliban’s representative in Doha, has stated that representatives of the Taliban administration must be present at all regional and international meetings related to Afghanistan. He emphasized that without their participation, Afghanistan will not be represented properly.
In conversations with the media, Shahin said that the involvement of Taliban representatives could provide the international community with a clear picture of the current realities in the country. This comes despite the fact that the Taliban administration has not yet been officially recognized by any country, and many international meetings have been held without their formal presence.
The Taliban’s representative in Doha also announced that the administration is seeking full membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The SCO is a regional security and economic organization with several Asian countries as members.
While the Taliban administration is pushing for active participation in regional and global forums, widespread restrictions on women’s rights, girls’ education, and political participation remain major obstacles to formal international engagement with the group. Many international organizations emphasize that any progress in diplomatic relations depends on tangible changes in the Taliban administration’s domestic policies.
