Afghan Diaspora in Germany Protest Taliban Policies Against Women and Recent Crackdowns

A group of Afghan citizens residing in Germany held a protest on Saturday, June 13, in response to the Taliban’s repression of women and the recent demonstrations in Herat. The protesters condemned the policies of the Taliban administration. Participants issued a statement declaring their solidarity with Afghan women and girls and rejecting what they described as “oppressive and discriminatory policies.”

The statement highlighted that over recent years, women in Afghanistan have been deprived of their fundamental rights, including the right to education, work, freedom of movement, and social participation. According to the protesters, this situation amounts to a clear violation of human rights and human dignity.

The demonstrators also referenced recent events in Herat, condemning the violent treatment of protesters and the detention of women as signs of restricted freedom of expression and the right to protest. They believe that the continuation of such actions has further narrowed the civil space in the country and raised serious concerns about the safety of its citizens.

Furthermore, the statement emphasized that under Taliban rule, Afghanistan is not a safe environment for many residents, particularly women, civil activists, and minorities. Arbitrary arrests and widespread restrictions persist.

The participants urged the European Union and the German government to halt the deportation of Afghan migrants. They warned that returning individuals to Afghanistan under the current conditions could seriously endanger their lives and security.

The rally was organized by Amnesty International’s Afghanistan Group and the Voice of Afghan Community Association in Düsseldorf. The organizers called on the international community not to remain indifferent to the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and to take concrete actions to support the fundamental rights of the Afghan people.
