Three Children Drown in Kabul River in Jalalabad

Three children lost their lives after drowning in the Kabul River in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon in the first district of the city, near the Behsood Bridge.
Sayed Tayeb Hammad, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in Nangarhar, reported that the victims were teenagers aged 13, 15, and 17. Two of them were brothers, and the third child was their cousin.
According to the information provided, the children had gone to the riverbank with several friends for recreation and drowned while playing in the waters of the Kabul River. Following the incident, security forces from the seventh district and firefighting personnel were dispatched to the site to conduct search and recovery operations to retrieve the bodies.
The Kabul River, which passes through Jalalabad, has some areas with strong currents and deep beds and witnesses similar incidents every year. In recent days, reports have emerged indicating an increase in drowning cases in several provinces. This situation highlights the urgent need for preventive measures, public awareness campaigns, and the establishment of rescue facilities in high-risk areas under Taliban administration.
