Panjshir Exports 20 Tons of Cherries to Central Asia

Local officials in Panjshir province have announced that approximately 130 tons of cherries have been harvested from the region’s orchards this year, with an additional 20 tons prepared for export to Central Asian countries. They stated that cherries are among the most important horticultural products of Panjshir.

Officials from the Panjshir Agriculture Directorate, operating under the Taliban administration, said this yield comes from nearly 363 hectares of orchards, with a total estimated value exceeding 13 million Afghanis. They emphasize that Panjshir cherries hold a favorable position in domestic and regional markets due to their unique quality and taste.

According to these officials, recent years have seen significant increases in cherry production due to the expansion of cherry orchards, distribution of improved saplings, and the broader development of horticultural activities. Panjshir, a mountainous province of Afghanistan, benefits from a moderate climate that provides ideal conditions for growing fruit trees, especially cherries.
