Lavrov Urges Continued Tehran-Washington Talks for Lasting Understanding

Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, announced early Friday that any potential agreement between Tehran and Washington must consider the interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as its neighboring countries. He emphasized the fundamental importance of continuing dialogue between the two sides.
In an interview with the newspaper Izvestia, Lavrov said Moscow supports the ongoing dialogue process between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is being mediated by Pakistan. According to him, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are also interested in playing a supportive role in this process.
The senior Russian diplomat added that continuing these negotiations is essential to reach a lasting understanding, and the final agreement must take into account the interests of Iran and its neighboring countries. He also stressed the importance of expanding dialogue between Iran and Arab countries and stated that Russia is ready to cooperate in this regard.
The Sputnik news agency also reported, quoting Lavrov, that Moscow has prepared a security plan for the Persian Gulf, which has recently been updated and sent to the six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Tehran.
In another part of his remarks, Lavrov stated that to strengthen the atmosphere of dialogue, it is necessary to completely rule out any military options or methods in the future; a move he believes could pave the way for reducing tensions in the region.
