Qatar Reaffirms Commitment to Mediation Efforts in Afghanistan and Global Conflicts

Qatar’s permanent representative to the United Nations has stated that Doha remains committed to mediation and diplomatic efforts to peacefully resolve conflicts, including the crisis in Afghanistan. Aliya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani said his country continues to play an active role in mediating to reduce tensions in various parts of the world, highlighting Afghanistan, Gaza, and the Democratic Republic of Congo as key areas of focus. He described the 2020 Doha Agreement as one of Qatar’s most significant mediation achievements concerning Afghanistan. This agreement, signed between the United States and the Taliban, paved the way for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan and triggered major political developments in the country. However, following the Taliban’s return to power, Afghanistan has faced serious political, economic, and human rights challenges, prompting the international community to emphasize the need for inclusive political dialogue and diplomatic solutions. The Qatari representative also warned that with the rising number of conflicts worldwide, the need for effective mediation and preventive diplomacy is greater than ever. He stressed that Qatar is ready to continue its facilitating role to prevent the spread of crises and achieve sustainable solutions.
