Khalilzad Highlights Expansion of Central and South Asia Connectivity

Zalmay Khalilzad, former US Special Representative for Afghanistan, has emphasized that expanding connections in transport, telecommunications, and energy between Central and South Asia could bring significant transformation to both regions. He made these remarks on X (formerly Twitter).
According to Khalilzad, strengthening these links lays the groundwork for enhanced security and economic growth among the countries in the region, potentially boosting the level of regional cooperation. He stressed the importance of sustainable connectivity between nations as a prerequisite for long-term development.
Referring to the “Termez” meeting, Khalilzad noted that the event will take place from June 4 to 6 in the city of Tashkent. He believes this summit presents a valuable opportunity to discuss joint projects in transit, energy, and communications sectors.
Regional meetings like Termez are generally held to reinforce economic cooperation and establish transit corridors between Central and South Asian countries—a region that geographically holds great potential to connect markets and facilitate trade between the East and the West.
