Bahrain Bans Citizens from Traveling to Iran and Iraq Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior has announced a ban on its citizens traveling to Iran and Iraq until further notice. In an official statement from Manama, the decision was attributed to “regional security concerns” and the current security situation, aimed at protecting Bahrain’s security and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
The statement, without detailing recent incidents or involved parties, claimed that the current conditions are the result of “the consequences of Iran’s aggression.” Bahraini officials did not provide further information on the duration of the travel ban.
In response, Esmail Baghai, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, previously condemned recent actions taken by the Bahraini government, including the revocation of citizenship for some citizens and the detention of several Shia clerics accused of ties to Iran. He described these measures as human rights violations and called the revocation of citizenship “an outdated punishment incompatible with fundamental human rights principles.”
Baghai also rejected Bahraini officials’ accusations against Iran, stating that such allegations would not distract regional public opinion from Manama’s responsibilities in recent developments. Political tensions between the two countries have risen in recent months, with the new travel restrictions considered part of this broader context.
