Amrullah Saleh Blames Taliban for Five Major Crises in Afghanistan

Amrullah Saleh, the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic and leader of the so-called ‘Green Trend,’ described the Taliban administration as the cause of ‘five major disasters and crises’ in Afghanistan in an audio message marking Eid al-Adha. He stated that the group has plunged the country into deep political, economic, and social crises.
This message was posted on the official Green Trend page on the social media platform X. In his message, Saleh claimed that thousands of Afghan citizens are held in Taliban prisons and deprived of their basic rights. He added, ‘These same people will take control of the country with the freedom of the homeland.’
Saleh also identified the Taliban administration as the source of national division, saying the group has harmed Afghanistan’s national identity. According to him, the legitimacy crisis of the Taliban administration has deepened day by day, and the group lacks both genuine internal support and international legitimacy.
He emphasized that globally, the Taliban administration is more associated with terrorism, security threats, and transnational crimes, and as long as the group remains in power, Afghanistan will not be able to establish normal relations with the international community.
Saleh described the country’s economic situation as a ‘major disaster’ and alleged that national revenues are being used to strengthen the Taliban’s structure rather than addressing the people’s needs — a point repeatedly raised by critics of the Taliban administration in recent years.
In another part of his remarks, he addressed the education sector, stating that Afghanistan’s young generation faces confusion and widespread unemployment, and that the social environment is being driven towards superstition.
Meanwhile, a number of political analysts believe that the Taliban administration, which took control of Afghanistan following the Doha agreement, has still failed to gain domestic and international legitimacy after several years. According to them, this issue poses serious challenges for the political future of the group.
