German Expert Warns of Rapid Militarization Driven by Russia Fear

A German expert has stated that the militarization process in Germany is expanding at an unprecedented pace, with the fear of Russia playing a central role as a political tool in this trend.
Rainer Braun, in an interview with Russian media, said that Germany is moving towards extensive military readiness at all levels, from high-level policies to social structures. According to him, this process is not limited to the rapid increase in defense spending but encompasses various aspects of citizens’ lives.
Braun explained that signs of militarization can be seen in different sectors, ranging from healthcare systems and civil defense to schools and even environmental programs. He emphasized that German society has reached a new level of wartime preparedness, which, in his opinion, has no precedent in the country’s history.
The German expert also claimed that emphasizing the Russian threat in contemporary German politics has become a powerful tool, creating a climate of public concern. According to him, this situation can divert public attention from other domestic challenges.
