Pakistan Army Chief Visits China Amid Regional Tensions

Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Army Chief and a key mediator for Islamabad in talks related to Tehran-Washington tensions, has traveled to China accompanied by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Pakistani state television reported that the delegation arrived in Beijing to meet and engage in discussions with Chinese officials.

This visit comes shortly after Munir, along with Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, traveled to Tehran last Friday and Saturday as part of diplomatic efforts to end the war involving Iran. In recent weeks, Islamabad has sought to play a mediating role in reducing regional tensions.

China’s Foreign Ministry stated that Beijing will collaborate with Pakistan to help swiftly restore peace and stability in the Middle East. The ministry emphasized that a war against Iran should never have happened and must not be resumed.

According to Pakistani television, during his meeting with Chinese leaders in Beijing, Shehbaz Sharif said, “The world is passing through a critical moment.” He began his official four-day trip to China from the city of Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province in eastern China.

As a significant regional actor and close economic partner of Pakistan, China plays an active diplomatic role in matters of Middle Eastern security and stability, and the recent cooperation with Islamabad is viewed within this framework.
