Taliban Distributes Nearly 30,000 Residential Plots to Returning Afghan Refugees

The Taliban’s Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has announced that the Permanent Committee for Settlement and Land Distribution has so far allocated nearly 30,000 residential plots to returning Afghan refugees. According to the ministry, the process of land distribution continues in several provinces.

Based on the information provided, on Monday alone, 1,161 families in six provinces received residential land plots. Officials from the ministry stated that these lands are allocated as part of a permanent settlement program for returning families.

With the increasing return of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries, access to shelter and basic services has become a serious challenge. Although the Taliban administration refers to the land distribution as part of the solution, it has not provided details on the exact locations of these areas, the infrastructure available, or transparency in the distribution process.

Urban experts have previously emphasized that sustainable settlement of refugees cannot be achieved by land allocation alone; it requires the provision of essential services such as water, electricity, schools, and health centers in these areas. It is expected that the Taliban administration offers clear accountability on these matters.
