Taliban Detain Over 60 People Attempting Illegal Border Crossing into Iran

The Public Relations Office of the 207 Al-Farooq Army Corps, which operates under the Taliban administration, has announced the arrest of more than 60 individuals attempting to cross the border from Herat into Iran illegally.
According to the Taliban, the arrests are part of broader efforts to combat human trafficking, prevent illegal crossings, and enhance security in border regions.
While the Taliban claim these actions are aimed at curbing human trafficking and maintaining border order, independent reports suggest that disorganized administrative structures, lack of legal migration pathways, and economic hardship have driven many Afghans to pursue irregular routes out of the country.
These arrests come at a time when the Taliban has yet to implement a comprehensive strategy to manage the ongoing migration crisis or address the difficult living conditions faced by residents near Afghanistan’s borders. Legal experts and human rights organizations have voiced concerns that those detained may face uncertainty and potential rights violations, including being held without due legal process or access to defense.
