Taliban Announces Leadership Changes in Kabul and Ghazni Provinces

The Taliban administration has announced leadership changes in Kabul and Ghazni provinces following a new decree from the movement’s leader. According to the decision, a new governor has been appointed for Ghazni, and the police chief position in Kabul has been assigned to another individual.

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Taliban stated that Wali Jan Hamza, the former police chief of Kabul, has been appointed as the new governor of Ghazni province. Previously, he was responsible for the security of the capital city.

At the same time, Abdulsamad Javid, the former governor of Ghazni, has been named the police chief of Kabul. Kabul holds a special political and security status as the country’s capital, and the appointment of its police chief is always a significant decision within the Taliban administration’s structure.

These changes come as the Taliban continue to appoint administrative leadership without transparent or participatory processes—a practice that has faced criticism from civil institutions and some residents since the Taliban’s return to power.
