Herat Commemorates 1051st Anniversary of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari

The 1051st birth anniversary of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari was commemorated on Saturday in the city of Herat. The event, organized by the Herat Directorate of Information and Culture, was attended by officials from the directorate, representatives from cultural centers of neighboring countries and Turkey, as well as numerous scholars and religious figures.

Speakers at the gathering described Khwaja Abdullah Ansari as one of the enduring figures in Islamic history, emphasizing that his thoughts and works continue to convey messages of knowledge, ethics, and humanity to today’s generation even after centuries.

Mir Mohammad Arham, the custodian of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari’s shrine, stated that the status of this great scholar and mystic is not limited to Herat or Afghanistan but that his works and ideas have inspired enthusiasts of knowledge, mysticism, and culture across the entire Islamic world.

Haider Hamid, a poet and researcher, highlighted Ansari’s virtuous character, noting that literary circles regard him as a great mystic. Additionally, beyond mysticism, he was one of the prominent scholars of hadith and adhered to the example of the Prophet Muhammad in his life. According to Hamid, Khwaja Abdullah Ansari encouraged society to pursue ethics, spirituality, and humanity.

Mawlawi Abdul Mateen Adel, Director of Culture at the Directorate of Information and Culture in Herat, also stated during the ceremony that Herat, as a city of knowledge, culture, and art, owes much to nurturing figures like Khwaja Abdullah Ansari, whose name has been recognized worldwide. He also mentioned Mawlana Abdul Rahman Jami, Imam Fakhr al-Razi, and Wa’iz Kashifi as other renowned scholarly stars of the province.

Sheikh Fazl-ur-Rahman Ansari, the preacher of the Gazar Gah Sharif Grand Mosque, emphasized the various aspects of Khwaja Abdullah Ansari’s life and stressed that today’s generation should take his knowledge, ethics, and lifestyle as a role model. He noted that Ansari was not only a mystic but also a distinguished Islamic commentator and hadith scholar whose scientific and mystical works continue to attract researchers’ attention.

Participants of the commemoration ceremony regarded these scientific and cultural luminaries as vital to reinforcing Herat’s historical identity and called for continued cultural programs to introduce prominent figures from this province.
