Deadly Clash in Argo, Badakhshan Leaves 2 Killed and 14 Injured

Local sources in Badakhshan confirm that following clashes between residents of Argo district and Taliban forces, at least two people have been killed and around 14 others injured. The fighting began yesterday and is ongoing. According to sources, tensions escalated after Taliban forces attempted to destroy opium poppy fields.
According to information from sources, some residents of Argo responded by taking to the roads and blocking the main highway in the district. Meanwhile, Taliban forces have deployed in readiness in certain mountainous areas of the district, raising concerns about the potential spread of the clashes.
Sources add that although the Taliban have sent a delegation to Argo to resolve the tensions, these efforts have so far been unsuccessful. With the deadlock continuing, there remains a risk of the conflict escalating further.
The Taliban administration has not yet made an official statement regarding the incident. This comes as Badakhshan has frequently witnessed clashes between local residents and Taliban forces over the destruction of opium poppy fields in recent years. Last year, protests and several days of clashes in the province led to the arrest of dozens of residents, a move that drew widespread criticism of the Taliban’s handling of popular protests.
