Taliban Rejects Pakistan Information Minister’s Claims About Afghan Journalists

The Taliban’s Department of Information and Culture has dismissed recent statements by Pakistan’s Information Minister regarding Afghan journalists as “baseless and worrying.” In a statement, the department emphasized that Afghan journalists carry out their work within the framework of national interests and responsible journalism principles.

The statement noted that making such allegations could negatively impact the media working environment and complicate media relations between the two countries. While the Taliban’s department did not provide further details about the nature of these remarks, it described them as unfounded.

Additionally, the Department of Information and Culture accused Pakistan of raising this issue in an effort to divert public attention from recent attacks on Kunar University and a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul.

This comes amid ongoing challenges to media freedom in Afghanistan over recent years, with numerous journalistic organizations continually calling for a safe and free environment for journalists — a demand that remains a serious concern in the country.
