Afghan and Pakistani Leaders Discuss War, Human Rights, and Trade in Joint Meeting

Sources told Tolo News that several political and academic figures from Afghanistan and Pakistan gathered in a joint meeting to discuss ending the war, resolving trade issues, and the state of human rights. Participants pledged to convey the messages of this dialogue to relevant parties in both countries to find common solutions.

The Afghan delegation included Jafar Mahdavi, former member of the Wolesi Jirga; Atif Mashal, former Afghan ambassador to Pakistan; Ghanchegol Arman, former diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Suleiman Ban Shah, former deputy minister of industry and trade; and Ubaidullah Baher, a university professor.

Representing Pakistan were Mashahid Hussain, Sitara Ayaz, Asif Durrani, Senator Abdul Qayyum Khan, and Hamid Mir.

According to the source, the main topics of discussion covered ways to end the ongoing wars, reduce political tensions, address trade challenges between the two countries, and review the human rights situation. This comes amid increasing concerns following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, with widespread restrictions on citizens’ rights and freedoms—especially for women and girls—leading many political and civil figures to call for comprehensive, dialogue-based solutions.

The participants agreed to share the messages and proposals from the meeting with decision-makers in both countries to achieve a common solution and ease tensions.
