UNHCR Reports Nearly 12,000 Afghans Returned in One Week

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that between April 19 and 25, nearly 12,000 Afghans returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan, Iran, Tajikistan, and several other countries.
According to a new chart published by the agency, 55 percent of the returnees are men and 45 percent are women. This data indicates that the return process involves entire families.
The report states that 57 percent of the returnees are under 18 years old, highlighting the substantial proportion of children among those returning. Additionally, 39 percent of the returning families are led by women.
The UNHCR added that about 82 percent of the individuals receiving humanitarian aid are women and children, groups that typically face greater vulnerability to economic and social challenges after returning.
