Pakistan Army Attacks Kunar Following Border Clashes After Ceasefire Collapse

Following the breakdown of the ceasefire between the Taliban administration and the Pakistani government, the Pakistan Army targeted locations in Asadabad, the capital of Kunar province in eastern Afghanistan. Reports indicate that four people were killed and 70 others injured as a result of this incident.
This ceasefire, established in early April through Chinese mediation, collapsed on Sunday evening after an exchange of fire in the Spin Boldak border area. Afghan media, citing sources within the Taliban’s security institutions, reported that clashes began between border guards of the Taliban administration and Pakistani soldiers following the shooting death of an Afghan child laborer by Pakistani forces.
According to the released reports, six Pakistani soldiers were killed in the confrontation, and a number of their equipment and weapons were seized by Taliban forces. The Taliban issued a video claiming that several other Pakistani soldiers were wounded and had retreated from the border positions.
However, the Pakistan Army has not yet issued an official response regarding these claims or how the clash began. The continuation of tensions along the border line has once again raised concerns about the safety of residents in the border areas—regions that have witnessed similar conflicts in past years, with local populations bearing the main cost.
