Deadly Bomb Explosion in Colombia Kills 20 and Injures 36

A roadside bomb explosion targeting a bus carrying civilians on Colombia’s Pan-American Highway has killed at least 20 people and injured 36 others. Local authorities have reported that among the victims, 15 were women. Following the incident, a three-day period of national mourning was declared in the Cauca department.
Octavio Guzmán, governor of Cauca, stated that the explosion took place in southwestern Colombia and is considered one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent years. In a post on the social media platform X, he described the event as “the most savage and ruthless attack against the civilian population in recent decades in Cauca.”
According to reports, the improvised explosive device was placed in the “El Túnel” area along the Pan-American Highway. Several vehicles in the vicinity were damaged by the blast. The Pan-American Highway is a crucial transit route in Latin America and has always held strategic importance.
The Cauca department has experienced recurrent clashes in recent years between drug trafficking gangs and their confrontations with the central government. These conflicts have repeatedly resulted in civilian casualties and explosive attacks targeting police forces and government facilities.
