Afghan Refugees in Pakistan Face Critical Crisis, Women Activists Urge Faster Resettlement

Several women activists from the ‘United Afghan Women’s Movement for Freedom’ have expressed deep concern over the situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan, describing their current conditions as ‘critical’ and calling on the international community to accelerate the resettlement process for these refugees.

These activists stated that thousands of Afghan families in Pakistan are facing serious challenges, including insecurity, legal uncertainty, and economic hardships. They warned that the continuation of this situation could lead to broader humanitarian consequences. The activists emphasized that many of these refugees left Afghanistan following the country’s political changes and the Taliban’s takeover and now live in a state of uncertainty and limbo.

According to the movement, the slow processing of cases and transfers to third countries has increased psychological and economic pressure on these families. They urged international organizations and host countries to recognize the urgency of the situation and speed up the acceptance and resettlement of Afghan refugees.

Pakistan has been one of the main hosts for Afghan refugees over the past several decades; however, in recent years, multiple reports have highlighted increased restrictions and residency challenges faced by these refugees. The women activists warned that neglecting the current situation could trigger a new humanitarian crisis.
