Taliban Welcomes Dialogue on Afghan Migrants’ Return, Urges Respect for Rights

Abdul Muttalib Haqqani, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Migrants and Returnees, announced that the administration welcomes talks regarding the return of Afghan migrants. He emphasized that forced deportation contradicts international principles and that the dignity and rights of migrants must be preserved.
According to Haqqani, any decisions about the fate of migrants should be made based on consent, respect for human rights, and accepted international standards. He warned that forced return could have legal and humanitarian consequences.
These remarks come after the European Commission released reports to the Belgian government concerning a visit by a Taliban delegation. It is reported that the visit was aimed at discussing the status and future of Afghan migrants in Europe.
While the Taliban administration speaks in favor of dialogue, there remain widespread concerns about human rights conditions and the internal situation in Afghanistan—issues that have consistently overshadowed the migrant return process. Many international organizations stress that the return of migrants must be voluntary, safe, and accompanied by guarantees of their fundamental rights.
