FBI Director Chris Wray Sues The Atlantic for $250 Million Over Critical Report

Chris Wray, Director of the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has filed a $250 million lawsuit against The Atlantic in response to a report about his performance and personal conduct. He claims that the published content was false and intended to damage his reputation and professional standing.

The Atlantic had previously published a detailed report based on interviews with more than 20 sources, including current and former FBI officials, members of Congress, and individuals close to Wray. The report described his management as “failed” and expressed concerns about the impact of his behavior on US national security.

One section of the report mentioned excessive alcohol consumption, frequent absences from the workplace, and difficulties in accessing the FBI director during critical times. The cited sources also stated that during a technical issue within his office’s internal system, Wray behaved nervously and unusually and sometimes made decisions without sufficient evidence.

The allegations further state that on some occasions, his condition was such that security guards struggled to keep him alert. Several US officials warned that such behaviors could weaken the FBI’s readiness in crisis situations, especially amid increasing global tensions.

The report also noted a rise in distrust, fear, resignations, and departures within the agency’s work environment. However, Wray has denied all these allegations, and the legal proceedings regarding this case are currently ongoing in US courts.
