Taliban’s Acting Minister Claims Public Support for Current Regime in Kunduz

Mullah Noorullah Noori, the acting Minister of Borders, Tribes, and Ethnicities for the Taliban administration, claimed at a gathering in Kunduz province that the people of Afghanistan support the “current Islamic system” and do not want previously ousted figures to return to power.

He said those who, as he described, conduct “foreign propaganda” and cause public concern are not accepted by citizens. Noori emphasized that the people of Afghanistan do not want individuals who were previously removed from power to rule over them again.

The acting minister also stated that with the establishment of a stable government in Afghanistan, Pakistan has lost the “cards” it had used over the past twenty years. He did not provide further details on this matter.

Noori additionally claimed that the “Islamic Emirate” is a free and independent system, and while maintaining independence, it seeks good relations with all countries.

These remarks come amid widespread domestic and international criticism of the Taliban administration since its return to power, particularly concerning political participation, women’s rights, and civil restrictions. Despite claims of public support, no referendum or nationwide elections have been held to gauge citizens’ views on the current power structure.
