Eight-Million-Afghani Dried Fruit Warehouse Opens in Tarinkot

A large dried fruit storage warehouse with a capacity of two thousand tons has been constructed and inaugurated in the fourth district of Tarinkot city, the capital of Uruzgan province. This warehouse is located inside the dried fruit market and its construction cost has been reported to be close to eight million Afghanis.
Mullah Mohammad Ismail Defai, the mayor of Tarinkot, stated that this project was implemented with the financial support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and at a cost of seven million seven hundred thousand Afghanis, in technical cooperation with the Tarinkot municipality. According to him, the purpose of establishing this warehouse is to improve the storage of dried fruits, support traders, and strengthen economic activities in the city.
Officials say that with the completion of this project, the process of storing and trading dried fruits in the market will become more organized and greater facilities will be provided for traders. They emphasize that establishing such infrastructure can play an effective role in reducing agricultural product waste and improving market management.
The mayor of Tarinkot described this initiative as a step toward the city’s economic development and added that efforts to attract and implement more infrastructural projects in the trade sector, investment, and job creation continue.
Several traders in Tarinkot have also welcomed the establishment of this warehouse. They say that providing standard storage facilities facilitates better supply of agricultural products to external markets and have called for the implementation of similar projects in the future.
It is worth noting that the Tarinkot municipality has implemented several other development projects in different urban sectors in recent months. Previously, in the same market, two cold storage facilities for dried fruits and vegetables were built and put into use at a cost of over five million Afghanis.
