Pakistan Army Affirms Islamabad’s Commitment to Reducing Tensions in West Asia

The Pakistan Army issued a statement following the conclusion of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s three-day visit to Iran, declaring that Islamabad will continue its efforts to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. The statement described the visit as a sign of Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peaceful solutions amid developments in West Asia. According to the statement, during this trip, the Pakistan Army Chief held talks with Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament. He also held separate meetings with Dr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Dr. Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister, and Major General Ali Abdollahi, Commander of Khatam-al Anbiya Headquarters. The Pakistan Army added that these meetings were conducted within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations and consulting on the regional situation, reflecting Islamabad’s determination to help reduce tensions in West Asia; a region that has witnessed continuous crises and conflicts in recent years. The statement further noted that Islamabad has played a mediating role in recent developments between Tehran and Washington. According to the Pakistan Army, both the Army Chief and the Prime Minister have maintained multiple contacts with Iranian officials and participated in message exchanges between Tehran and Washington, an effort that ultimately helped establish a ceasefire.
