Somalia Condemns Israel’s Move to Appoint Diplomatic Representative in Somaliland

Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared that Israel’s attempt to appoint a diplomatic representative in the Somaliland region constitutes a clear violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Mogadishu condemned this act, describing it as contrary to Somalia’s national unity.
According to a statement issued by Somalia’s Foreign Ministry, appointing a diplomatic representative in the northwestern part of the country without coordination with the central government is considered interference in internal affairs. Somali officials emphasized that such an action lacks legitimacy and contravenes the accepted principles of international relations.
International media reports note that the region known as Somaliland took control of parts of Somalia’s territory following an internal rebellion. Although the region claims autonomy, it has not been recognized by the international community.
Reports further indicate that Israel is the only country to have officially recognized Somaliland, a move that has provoked a strong reaction from Somalia’s central government and sparked new diplomatic tensions in the Horn of Africa country.
